TAAP Collaborative Application Feature Extensions (CAFÉ)

The pandemic brought about momentous changes with regards to how we communicate with one another, both on personal and professional levels. It’s become more important than ever for businesses to leverage the power of collaborative working. Employees are increasingly seeking working models that embrace hybridity between the office and home.

As a result of this behavioural shift, the use of video, audio, and desktop sharing is now ubiquitous, the cornerstone through which to deliver such a modern, collaborative way of working.

Zoom, MS Teams, and many other products and services were business lifelines during the pandemic. Users had previously resisted these types of technologies for they were difficult to understand, often unreliable, and people just didn’t like being on video.

Two years on, however, and we’ve all embraced being on video. We’ve all had a good laugh at the kids coming in, the dog barking, the doorbell ringing, and we’re feeling far more laid back about using video technology. What’s more, these tools have been constantly refined, with more and more features added to lessen problems and help streamline the collaborative working model.

The ‘new normal’ of collaborative applications

As pandemic restrictions lifted, the value and power of this way of working is now established, even normalised. The first generation of collaborative applications allowed two or more people to connect by video, audio, and share desktop apps and screens. The next generation introduces data messaging allowing for true end-to-end interactions. App builders are enabled to manipulate the views and data shown to the respective parties working in this collaborative manner.

Live video chat, desktop sharing, document sharing, and video annotation are extremely powerful technologies and fundamentals in collaborative app development. But, developing applications that benefit from these capabilities is a real technological challenge.

To start with, specialists that can create video, audio, and data streams are required. Then someone needs to connect these streams together to form connections, and that’s all before deciding what the app should do and building the rest of the required functionalities!

TAAP has extended its no/low-code application platform to allow organisations of any size to create apps incorporating collaborative technologies. These can be brought to life in minutes.

The TAAP Enterprise Applications Platform is constantly being extended to reflect the needs of our clients. The Collaborative Application Feature Extensions (CAFÉ) is a powerful suite of capabilities that allows organisations to create new classes of collaborative application, at scale, and for many different digital workflows and processes. These include:

  • Video
  • Audio
  • Desktop sharing
  • Data messaging
  • Document sharing
  • Logical meeting rooms
  • Waiting rooms
  • No-code interactive extensions
  • Video annotation
  • Photo snapshots
  • Whiteboards
  • And even more!

TAAP CAFÉ brings a powerful set of no/low-code capabilities to an already exciting applications platform!

TAAP accelerating automotive collaborative applications

The next level in customer service can be achieved using TAAP CAFÉ. Let’s say a customer’s car has broken down and an error light is displayed on their dashboard. By clicking just one link, the customer can contact a member of support staff who can access their vehicle details to readily solve any queries.

Video calls can then be commenced to explain and review any issues. Where an issue cannot be solved, another member of staff can be added to the same call to provide additional support. Using the camera on the device to show symptoms of a query, instructions can be provided to get to the cause in an instant, and fully recorded for future reference.

Where an expert can’t solve an issue via video call, the customer can send their live location to breakdown teams for an exact position of support.

Customers’ queries can be solved at speed, organisations can be readily available to support clients, and both parties have full visibility of actions taken.

TAAP accelerating collaboration in the TIC sector

In another real-life scenario, inspections can be carried out virtually within the TIC sector. The onsite individual and other quality assurance team members are brought together to ‘attend’ the inspection as it takes place. Advancements in video technology mean these solutions deliver exceptionally high-quality images, allowing remote users to see granular-level details of assets.

From here, participants can watch, comment, and pinpoint exact queries, reducing the likelihood of mistakes. The on-screen chat and notation features of TAAP CAFÉ allow input to be garnered from all users immediately, allowing for quicker decision-making.

Overall, inspections are carried out just as thoroughly as they would be in-person.

TAAP accelerating collaborative audits and inspections

TAAP CAFÉ provides full functionality to annotate both the livestream and existing photos/images with pre-defined codes and/or freehand shapes and lines. These modified images are automatically embedded into reports generated by the system, enabling comparisons over time.

In a digital world, the ability to retrieve and compare documents with absolute certainty that they’ve not been tampered with is becoming more and more important. Evidence trails and audits must be authentic; this detailed approach drastically reduces the risk of overlooking issues or potential mistakes.

Other digital capabilities that our comprehensive suite incorporates includes camera zoom and screen captures (on any iOS or Android smart device with an in-built camera). We encrypt our audio and video feeds via the universal Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256-bit, ensuring confidentiality and secure storage.

Continuous capabilities

At TAAP, we’ve witnessed first-hand the benefits of having the option to carry out tasks remotely. Going back to our TIC example for a moment, travelling between inspections often brings about travel fatigue, especially where sites are in highly remote locations.

For a start, using TAAP CAFÉ lessens the need to travel between sites, often time-consuming and costly. Up to 47% of video conference users have reduced their travel costs, and benefits widen to allowing tasks to continue, regardless of variables like site access or travel restrictions. It’s also helping to lessen carbon footprint, bringing around environmental benefits too.

Even more, it’s been suggested that video meetings improve productivity by 50%. Industries aren’t going to shy away from such facts, so we’re working to ensure our video connections are strong, fast, and reliable. By managing network topology more effectively, we’re able to provide the most optimal bandwidth over low latency/bandwidth networks across remote locations worldwide.

Being resilient in an ever-digitalising landscape is key for businesses moving forwards. With TAAP CAFÉ, new capacities are discovered, and ways of working are optimised and improved. Video is, indeed, the future; let TAAP CAFÉ help you to navigate it.
